About this style
Between the Wars homes (1918–1940s) mark a shift from ornate Federation design to simpler, more practical architecture. Influenced by the Californian Bungalow, Tudor Revival, Spanish Mission, and early Art Deco, these houses often featured lower-pitched tiled roofs, face brickwork, leadlight windows, and pared-back detailing. Mouldings from this era are solid and straightforward, with lambstongue architraves, chunkier skirting boards, and occasional stepped or geometric profiles in Art Deco examples.
Today, Between the Wars mouldings are a popular choice for heritage restorations and renovations of classic Australian homes, blending durability with understated character.
